
Josephine Dorado is an award-winning developer, designer and educator with a focus on immersive learning and social impact. With a portfolio of work that has garnered multiple Fulbright awards and a MacArthur Foundation award in Digital Media & Learning, her expertise concentrates on innovation in virtual reality and extended reality (VR/XR) experiences with a lens toward learning and cultural exchange.
Josephine is the President of Fulbright’s New York chapter and brings to the board 15+ years of experience in chapter management as well as alumni programs that nurture community engagement and youth mentorship. She founded the Fulbright NY Alumnus-in-Residence program (FAIR) – which supports Fulbright alumni doing social impact projects, the Fulbright NY Open Salon series – which features talks by Fulbrighters and the Global Curriculum Toolkit – which includes teaching materials for with an international focus. Josephine has also previously chaired Fulbright’s Chapter Advisory Board, which is a national advisory group of chapter leaders and has been on Fulbright Association’s National Board of Directors as well.
Professionally, Josephine is working on 3D simulation training and recently worked with the World Health Organization to create an augmented reality experience for mass casualty training. Previously, she created Kidz Connect, a virtual cultural exchange program that connected youth internationally through creative collaboration and theatrical performance in virtual worlds. In addition, Josephine was a former professor of media studies at The New School and is also an occasional TechCamp trainer for the State Department.
She recently won funding, in collaboration with TechCamp Addis Ababa participants in Ethiopia, to develop a prototype for her innovative idea Co(X)ist. This program seeks to promote peaceful coexistence through increased cultural awareness and social tolerance through immersive learning activities that involve roleplaying with 3D digital avatars placed into various cultural situations.
